Rates were comparable to the Royal Mint’s buy back service, and they were similarly up on current metal values. If you live within driving distance, taking your bullion there is a lot quicker than posting and avoids the insurance costs of sending mail. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable, and the turnaround was quick – money appeared in my account much more quickly than when I used RM buy back. I’ve used them twice now and they’ve proven very trustworthy.

I added a note to my order of silver britannias:

– These coins are for wedding favours, please do not send me damaged coins, if you cannot provide undamaged coins, please cancel my order.

Chards ignored this tacit change in contract terms and sent me severely damaged coins, they are of so poor quality that I had to place an second order with a competitor, who kindly checked the coins and set exceptional quality coins.

When I complained to Chards I was told that I had been sent bullion quality coins, and if I wanted undamaged coins I should have ordered proof coins!

Chards have sent me severely damaged coins on a number of occasions now, both silver and gold coins. I buy new coins only and expect better quality, especially when ordering as gifts.

The problem with this is that Chards have stated in other reviews that their offer price for Buy Back is dependent on quality and condition of the coins, so I am paying full price, no discount, and I know they will offer a lower Buy Back price when I sell them back to Chards. This means some customers are treated unfairly by Chards.

I have also noticed when reading other reviews that Chards appears to discriminate against certain customers, repeatedly sending them damaged coins. It very much feels like Chards dislike some of their customers and treat them differently, by sending all their damaged coins to a select group of customers on a repeated basis.

Damaged bullion coins are not only a problem when selling by to bullion dealers, they are also a problem when customers attempt to sell the damaged coins to other collectors, for example on the ‘Silver Forum’, as no one wants to buy the damaged coins.

Chards do say that they will buy the damaged coins back when I am ready to sell, but as I have already explained, Chards Buy Back offers is dependent on condition, even for bullion coins. Anyone receiving damaged coins from Chards is being put at a distinct disadvantage compared to customers who are receive coins of high quality.

Essentially customers who buy new full price coins that are damaged from Chards could potentially lose a significant amount of money when it comes to selling them!

I am so unhappy with the way I have been treated by Chards, I will not be ordering again, and I recommend everyone on my finance group do the same.

Chard is an exceptional company – one we can always rely on for quality products at a fair price and all with a friendly and dependable service. I do wish their secondary market stocks would stick around a bit longer as I always seem to miss them but that just shows how good the company’s pricing is (and in a way how ridiculous the UK’s VAT on silver bullion is vs gold). Like I say and exceptional company and one I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend and indeed have on several occassions.

What can I say? Chards is the only UK website I know that sells gold at spot price. Their premiums are incredibly low, delivery is fast, and the service is absolutely spot on.
